LAHORE - Panic gripped the Gulberg locality on early Friday when a powerful blast took place inside a closed restaurant. Two persons sustained minor injuries in the blast, which partially damaged five shops nearby. Police ruled out the possibility of sabotage and said that it was a cylinder blast owing to gas leakage.
Officials said that that the blast took place in the restaurant located at the third floor of a shopping mall in the Gulberg area. The rooftop and boundary wall of the restaurant caved in shortly after the explosion. An official said that two men including a security guard sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.
A police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said that Sui Gas department and government agencies are probing into the blast, which erupted in the plaza owned by a senior police officer serving the Punjab province.
