LAHORE - PIA and Port Qasim reached the final of the NBP Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at National Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday. In the first semi-final PIA beat National Bank after a thrilling match by 2-1. At the end of the first half, the score was 1-1. The first goal was scored from PIA by Muhammad Zubair in 14th minute on the only penalty corner. The goal was leveled from National Bank by Imran Warsi in 27th minute on penalty stroke. The decisive goal from PIA was scored by Waqas Akbar in 42nd minute. PIA were shown three yellow and green cards each by the umpires, while National Bank got three penalty corners in the match but penalty corner specialist Imran Warsi did not succeeded to score the goal. Director Human Resource Pakistan Cricket Board Wasim Bari and former Olympian Shahbaz Ahmad Sr. were the chief guests of the first semi final, while fast bowler Muhammad Asif was also present during the second half to support his departmental team National Bank. Port Qasim beat Army on golden goal by 2-1 in the second semi-final. At the end of the first half the score was 1-1, but by the end of the match both teams did not manage to score any goal. In extra time, Port Qasim got their first penalty corner of the match and Muhammad Khalid converted the goal in 75th minute. Earlier, in the match, Muhammad Atif of Port Qasim opened an account in 32nd minute. Muhammad Afzal of Army leveled the goal in 34th minute on penalty corner. Army got seven penalty corners in the match but they managed to score only one goal. President PPP D. G Khan Khawaja Mudassar was the chief guest on the second semi final.Final will be played today (Wednesday). Federal Minister for Textiles Rana Farooq Saeed will be the chief guest of final match.
