LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz on Monday said that old homes will be set up in all districts of the province where senior citizens shall be provided with basic necessities of life free of cost.
Addressing a consultative seminar on Senior Citizens Bill 2013 organised by Social Welfare Department with the cooperation of Jaag Welfare Movement and Help Age International, she said that the legislation was aimed at providing best facilities to senior citizens as they were an important segment of the society.
Zakia Shahnawaz said that counters have also been set up for senior citizens in the hospitals. She said that governments as well as civil societies were playing active role for bringing comfort in the life of senior citizens. She said that in under-developed countries including Pakistan, the persons reaching to the age of 40 years look older due to problems and stress. She said that 47 percent male and 24 percent female elders were forced to work.
