Consumer court issues notice

LAHORE - A consumer court on Saturday issued a notice to the chief executive of a courier company for February 19 in a suit seeking payment of Rs 1 million in damages for allegedly providing defective and improper services. A complainant namely Rabia Fakhar, resident of Hurbanspura had filed a suit in the consumer court against a courier company located at Peco Road Kot Lakhpat submitting that on December 22, 2010 she had dispatched a document containing an application for lucrative post of Head Of Institution advertised in a newspaper on December 20-2010 by Punjab Daanish School and Centers of Excellence Authority Government of the Punjab with closing date December 27, 2010 through the courier service having consignment Note No-40013782950, courier code 90624. The complainant maintained that she had clearly written the address and contact numbers of officer concerned of the institution. She further said she was stunned when her document was returned her back with the objection that there was no such consignee given address showing respondents negligence. She informed the court that she had contacted with the concerned representative of customer services and brought the matter into his notice but all in vain. She said she had served a legal notice to the company seeking the damages of Rs 1 million but she was not met with any response till the filing of the suit. She requested the court to direct the respondent to pay the above said amount as damages because she suffered mental torture, distress, agony and financial loss as well. On petitioners plea the court issued a notice to the chief executive of the courier company for February 19 to clarify his companys position.
