Really, really saving time

We are constantly short of electricity and we are not likely to overcome this shortage in the next 5 -7 years. Let us do the following: let us call this crisis as power management and retire the term 'loadshedding'. Secondly, let us officially reduce the day and night duration to a mere 16 hours instead of 24. This means all things in Pakistan would be reduced by 2/3rds. All targets reduced by 2/3rds, all planning on 2/3rds time allocation. School hours, office timing and virtually everything else would be adjusted to 2/3 formula. In other words, a date in Pakistan will be regarded as a day and night stretched over only 16 hours. This will enable us to live with 2/3 (16 hours) instead of 24-hours. I am sure the wizards in government can work out such a plan. Surely that would save us electricity. -AMJAD H. MIRZA, Lahore, via e-mail, May 21.
