Giving democracy a chance

Pakistan witnessed 65 years of darkness and has managed to stumble from one issue to the next. Our history is full of leaders who were masters of rhetoric and empty promises. If we talk about rhetoric’s, military dictators had more command than civilian rulers. Thankfully, people are beginning to realize that sitting idle is not the solution to the problem. Last year’s voter turnout testifies to the fact that people believe more in democracy than dictatorship. Unfortunately, every time a democratic government comes it is soon sent back home.
Pakistan needs to break this vicious cycle of alternative civilian and military rules. If PPP government did not deliver, it was ousted via vote. Similarly, if PML-N doesn’t deliver it can be sent back through vote. Democracy in Pakistan is in a nascent state which needs evolution, not revolution.
