Celebrations are what we are all most fond of. Starting with Ayub Khan, we have been celebrating 'decades of development'. In the past, we usually took a decade of plunder before we started celebrating it. But the PPP government cannot wait for 5 or 10 years to celebrate something. They have already started an annual celebration. Hence, one year of President Zardari's tenure is being celebrated these days with felicitation all round. The country is without sugar, flour, milk and other such basic necessities that the common man needs everyday. And they are simply not there. The common man, you see, does not have to abstain from anything to fast now as with nothing to have, he is fasting anyway. Well done people's government Democracy is safe, Americans are safe from terrorists and the entire world is happy at their being finally safe. Everything honky-dory as per the PPP rhetoric, except the poor Pakistanis who are gruelling at the heavy price they have paid. My only request is to stop these celebrations as they work like salt on the bleeding wounds of the people. -AMJAD HABIB MIRZA, Lahore, September 10.
