Beggars can be choosers

The monarchical approach of the two most influential families of the country has made democracy in Pakistan an ordeal and a joke because power is shifted from one family to the other, while citizens wait for sincere leadership. In Pakistan, rights are taken away during rigged elections, through corrupt practices, intimidations and threats, and those sincere to the people neither win nor come into power. Under the 18th Amendment, the Constitution of Pakistan has entitled corrupt politicians to enjoy their tenure without any effort. Likewise, the practice of electing a Chief of Election Commissioner, formation of a caretaker government, or becoming a prime minister for the third time, lowering of the criteria of education, have all been manipulated by politicians to suit their own ends.
Due to their bad policies, and bad governance nothing flourishes and people cannot benefit from the so called ‘democracy’. One fails to understand the present government’s development policies. They distributed laptops instead of giving education, they gave loans instead of food or subsidy to farmers, construction of Metro Bus instead of homes for the poor and introduction of Pakistan Protection Ordinance instead of providing citizens protection from corrupt police. Although, democracy broadens the horizons, improves citizens’ life-style swiftly in developed countries, in Pakistan it has yet to produce any of its benefits for the poor and the middle class. Since it is clear that people want bread, peace and education, therefore they will follow the person who promises them these necessities of life.
