Long wait for energy

It is good to note that the our President Mamnoon Hussain has opted to visit China for his first state visit abroad, along with the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal. It is an important step in reinforcing the strategic partnership and in strengthening the economic ties between the two countries. The agenda of the visit speaks volumes about the government’s serious efforts to find potential solutions to the energy crisis. Pakistan is evidently seeking the cooperation of China to help solve it. One may hope that Chinese investment, particularly in the production of coal fired and solar energy would bring relief to our energy starved production sector. These initiatives are commendable but the government must generate additional energy soon, for the country cannot afford any further negligence or delay in this regard.
