This advertisement was given to the press and internet on April 23, 2010. Against this advertisement, more than 2,000 doctors applied for various post graduate courses. Two categories of applicants appeared in interview - private and Govt. employees. The interviews were conducted by concerned professors, heads of departments, and faculty deans of the respective departments of PGMI, Lahore. The Govt. employees submitted two copies of their applications- one advance copy was submitted to the principal PGMI Lahore and other copy was routed to the secretary Govt. of Punjab, Health Department Lahore. Final selection of the candidates was done and a list of successful candidates was announced towards the end of August, 2010. Selected candidates received their admission letters in which candidates were asked to join PGMI Lahore on 01-10-2010.Their respective classes started on 01-10-2010. Nearly 100 doctors of Govt. hospitals who have duly applied for the deputation after receiving their admission letters from PGMI, Lahore are still waiting for their deputation for post graduate trainings. Most of them have sold their household articles and some of them have made an arrangement for their rented accommodation at Lahore for the duration of their study period. The grant of deputation for such employs should have been made much before 15-10-2010. In order to facilitate their studies and to avoid undue loss of their class work, training and research work. Moreover, a number of medical institutions, colleges, universities are being established which require a large number of more qualified staff with expertise and with new modern technological skills. So their need is badly felt in the coming days. Human body is changing rapidly from year to year and doctors are being asked to keep on treating patients for the same illness. Patients require more credible and specific cure for which the patients have to go through the elaborative tests. As a result, a doctor can suggest specific prescription. If a patient is not getting a specific and successful advice from a doctor, he may do harm to his health. It is, therefore, requested that the Government should make an arrangement for the grant of deputation to PGMI, Lahore keeping in view the above mentioned realities. The medical profession must be strengthened. PROFESSOR DR KHALIL AHMED, Faisalabad, October 22.
