A state makes the law to protect the rights of its citizens. The legislature makes it and the executive enforces it. When a common citizen violates the law, he/she is punished. But when the law gets violated by those who are supposed to implement it, it is very harmful not only for the society but for the whole country. We the traffic wardens come across such type of repugnant incidents many times a day while performing our duty. Take a look at the motorcyclists in Rawalpindi. You will notice that majority of them wear helmets. But it seems the personnel of the Punjab Police are averse to wearing helmets. Perhaps they think it to be below their dignity. Even those personnel of the Punjab Police who escort the City Police Officer (CPO) and Regional Police Officer (RPO) don't wear helmets. It is also commonplace for the policemen belonging to the Punjab Police to violate traffic signals. This constitutes not only a gross violation of traffic rules but also create problems for traffic wardens. The honourable RPO and CPO are requested to look into the matter. A TRAFFIC WARDEN, Rawalpindi, December 30.
