PESHAWAR - For the very first time in FATA’s history, a female candidate Badam Zari from Bajaur Agency on Sunday submitted her nomination papers to participate in the general elections being held on May 11.
Hailing from Aran village of Bajaur Agency, Badam Zari, 38, will contest as an independent candidate for a national assembly seat, NA-44 Bajaur Agency. Badam Zari, who hails from Bajaur Agency has become the first woman from tribal areas who will contest any general elections in the country.
Generally, tribal women are neither allowed to participate in elections or to exercise their right to franchise.
Talking to a private TV channel, Badam Zari said that she would contest as an independent candidate in a bid to serve tribal women.
She said that wanted to see women in all fields and stand side by side with men, adding that she would actively campaign and keep herself informed with problems being faced by the residents of Bajaur Agency. Badam Zari said that people from his area would support her, adding that she knew the law and order situation in the tribal areas.
