SIALKOT - With the advent of Ramazan, hundreds of beggars have arrived in the Sialkot city and some of them claimed that they have a right to begging as their rulers are also busy in the same practice and getting financial aid from international institutions and countries such as IMF and the US. The city is termed as golden sparrow by the beggars, who were very happy as the people especially the families of the exporter give them dollars and other foreign currencies as well. A large number of beggars including women and children could be seen in and around mosques, walking tracks, public parks, bazaars, shopping centers, general bus stands, Allama Iqbal Chowk, Lehai Bazaar, Saddar Bazaar, Chowk Shaheedan, Green Wood Street, Pooran Nagar, Prem Nagar, Model Town, Mubarakpura, Hajipura, Naikapura, Poora Heeran, Muslim Town, Gulistan Colony, Christian Town and surrounding areas as well. As many as 95 percent beggars are professional. They have come here to enjoy their luxurious life from the other parts of the country. Most of these beggars were healthy and could do other work instead of begging, but they have badly indulged in this curse of begging. Moreover, several beggars are fake handicapped. Several young women are also found begging there and inviting the innocent people to some immoral activities as well. Ironically, there was no official check upon these beggars by police and other law-enforcing agencies due to which the number of the small and big beggars was rising in Sialkot day by day. Some beggars said that they were very happy to be in the city of the exporters, as the exporters. They said that this happened to be in the posh areas including Model Town and Sialkot Cantt as well. Bashir Ahmed, a beggar from Vehari, announce to give up begging when ever he would feel that the country (Pakistan) has sincere rulers, motivated to national development and prosperity. Several female beggars are also found involved in theft and other criminal activities in Sialkot city and other parts. While children are often found busy in begging by telling the fake stories of social injustice and cruelties with them. The child beggars are busy in begging in and around bakeries, hotels, restaurants and other places. The perturbed people have expressed grave concern over this critical situation, saying that the beggars had disturbed them mentally, as they were promoting the cancer and curse of begging in the society. They said that the police, district administration and the NGOs were allegedly doing nothing to curb the menace of beggary in Sialkot. The have urged the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Commissioner Gujranwala Division Saeed Wahla and Sialkot DCO Mujahid Sher Dil to look into the matter and to get the Sialkot and people of Sialkot rid of these beggars.
