Bad blood, mishaps devour 45 lives on Eid

At least 45 persons including 14 women and seven children were killed in dozens other injured in different incidents of drowning, violence, enmity and road mishaps occurred during Eid days across the province
According to details, in Sargodha six persons including a minor were killed in different mishaps during Eid days. In first incident a speedy car hit a motorbike on Sargodha-Lahore at Sial Morr, killing the biker Zulfiqar and his wife Aasiya instantly. However their eight-year-son Noman remained unhurt in the accident.
In another incident one 60-year-old Ghulam Ali (60) allegedly committed suicide by jumped in front of a moving train coming from Lala Musa near Railway Station Sargodha. In another incident 29-year-old youth Naveed drowned in Jehlum River when he was taking bath while rescue divers saved his friend’s life.
Meanwhile, a minor two-year-old Asher also drowned when he was playing in a water tub in his house. In village armed accused Iftkhar gunned down one Hasanat over a petty issue.
In Sheikhupura, three people including two women were killed in different parts of the district.
In first incident a woman Sultana Bibi was shot dead by her neighbour in village Khana Lubana over a children quarrel. According to details, the children of Iftikhar and deceased woman quarrelled with each other while playing. When the accused came to know he entered the woman house and opened fire killing her instantly. The Muridke Saddr Police registered a case against the accused.
In another incident one Waris Ali was stoned to death by his friend over monetary dispute. Waris and Intizar were doing a joint business due to some reason differences were cropped up between them. At which after exchanging hot words Waris stoned his friend Intizar to death. The Factory Area Police lodged a case against the accused.
In another incident, a man shot his wife dead for honour in village Ghanianwala in the remit of Ferozewala Police. The accused Karamat suspected that his wife had developed illicit relation with a man of the same locality. After exchanging hot words the accused opened fire, killing her on the spot.
In Muzaffarabad, three brothers and their cousin drowned in a high altitude lake in a remote area of Neelum valley.
The bodies of three were fished out the same evening while the fourth one was retrieved later, the police said.
The incident occurred near Domel Bala, a high altitude village where the residents of Kel move to in summers according to local traditions.
Kel is located more than 160 kilometres northeast of here along the main Neelum valley road, and Domel Bala lies a further 25 kilometres ahead of it, but towards a sub valley of Neelum, known as Shounthar.
“In all, six boys were swimming in Dak Lake and four of them drowned,” a police official told by telephone from Kel.
The small but deep pond is located close to the AJK’s border with Astore, and its excess water merges into Shounthar Nullah.
The deceased were identified as Zahid, 22, Naveed, 18, Rizwan, 16, sons of Gul Faraz, and Saqib, 20, son of Gul Hassan.
In Gujranwala, three minors siblings were electrocuted. According to details, Zaheer, resident of Alyas Colony along with his family came to his sister-in-law’s house for celebrating Eid. His three children Qasim (10), eight-year-old Raina and seven-year-old Kainaat were playing in street when they suddenly touched an electric pole and received severe shock. Resultantly all the three child died on the spot. The family members and residents of the area staged a demonstration against the Gepco authority. The protesters placed the dead bodies on GT Road and chanted slogans against the Gepco.
They demanded stern action against the officials responsible for the lapse that resulted in the gruesome incident. Meanwhile, the CPO along with other officers rushed to the spot and assured strict action against responsible persons. Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
In another incident three persons were died in road accidents here during Eid holidays. Sikandar, resident of Marali Wala was going on motorcycle when near Tatli Wali his motorcycle collided with a car, killing him died on the spot. Imran, resident of Hafizabad Road was busy doing wheelie when he hit a truck and got serious injuries. He was rushed to hospital but he breathed his last on the way to hospital. Meanwhile, a youth namely Amjad died due to collusion between motorcycle and horse-cart here in Rawhali area.
In Mailsi, three youngsters drowned in River Sutlej and two others were rescued by Rescue 1122. As per details, five friends, residents of Luddon Road near Karampur went to River Sutlej for picnic. While bathing in the river they all drowned however, 17-year-old Munir and 16-year-old Asif were rescued by Rescue 1122 while 15-year-old Nasir, 16-year-old Shafique and 16-year-old Rashid drowned.
In another incident a seven-year-old girl was electrocuted in the washroom of his house.
Seven-year-old Saima, daughter of Shaikh Abdul Latif, a resident of Mohallah Bhatanwala went to washroom to take shower where he sustained severe electric shocks and died instantly.
In Toba Tek Singh, a minor boy, son of a farmer was electrocuted in Rajana. Deceased Adnan was playing in his house when he suddenly touched a live electric wire of fodder cutting machine. As a result he sustained critical electric shocks and died on the spot.
In Khanewal, Two girls drowned in River Ravi near Tlumba Town, about 40-km from here. According to Rescue 1122 and local residents, two girls namely 14-year-old Sana d/o Khaliq Parvez and 12-year-old Khalida Bibi, daughter of Noor Samad were taking bath near bank of Ravi River where they drowned. Rescue 1122 recovered body of Sana while search for the other is continued till filing of this report.
Meanwhile, three persons died after consuming locally-brewed toxic liquor at Jaswant Nagar area.
According to police, two friends Muhammad Aashiq and Zahid, residents of Jaswant Nagar area Khanewal, drank wine, fell unconscious and died soon after.
A third person perished later at a hospital.
The police said that investigation had been launched into the incident.
In Muzaffargarh, nine persons were killed and nine others sustained injuries when a passenger van hit a tree due to speeding late the other night.
According to Rescue 1122 sources, the passenger van was on the way to Alipur from Multan when it reached near Muzzafargarh it collided against a tree after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to speeding. Resultantly three passengers were killed on the spot and 15 others injured.
The injured were shifted to hospital where six other passengers also succumbed to injuries.
In Shorkot, a youth identified as Kishwar shot dead his friend Tariq Saleem in Chak 494. As per details, they both worked together and the deceased had come to his house the day before Eid where they a scuffle over a petty issue. Kishwar opened firing killing his friend on the spot. The police have registered a case against the accused and his brother Ghazanfar and arrested the accused.
In Multan, three accused including Muhammad Khan, Saeed Khan and Afzal showered volley of bullets on Muhammad Imran and Abdul Manan over dispute of litigation when they were returning from mosque after saying prayer in a village Sujaanpur. The slain are uncle and nephew. Two passers-by children also came under fire and sustained serious injuries.
The Sital Marri Police have rounded up the accused Saeed Khan and registered a murder case under ATA sections.
Similarly, two women were killed as a result of a head-on collision between an oil-tanker and a motorbike on Sher Shah Road. The women were identified as Hafza and Asma who were going on the ill-fated bike.
In Sialkot, two persons were shot dead in separate incidents during Eid days here. In Naikapura Sialkot City, a local trader Ramzan was shot dead in front of his shop by unidentified armed motorcyclist. In Bazaar Khateekaan, a local jeweller Mehar Shah was gunned down by three armed accused including Abdul Jabbar and Ibrar Ahmed, over a monetary dispute. The police have arrested the accused and sent them behind the bars.
