Lawyers oppose extension in SC judges retirement age

MANDI BAHAUDDIN
The district lawyers community have rejected the proposed bill for granting two-year extension in the retirement age of Supreme Court judges. DBA President Farooq Gondal rejected the bill and said that ‘the decision of the ruling party is based on mala-fide intentions to use the judiciary for promoting its own purposes. He said that the proposed bill if approved would demoralise not only junior judges in line for  promotion but lawyers’ fraternity as well. The lawyers’ community would raise voice collectively against the controversial bill as it would lower down dignity and respect of the judges in the eyes of lawyers and public at large, he said. The DBA members including Khuram Naqvi, Sheikh Numan Khawar, Khalid Anwar Bhatti, and Malik Tarar, Sarfraz were also present on the occasion.
