Pakistan wants balanced ties with KSA, Iran: Aziz

Islamabad - Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said Pakistan wants to keep balance in its ties with Saudi Arabia and Iran.
In an interview with BBC, he said for the last five years Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia and Iran have not been as good as these should be. Aziz said during PPP government, not a single Saudi minister visited Pakistan.
Recently, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia’s military and government high-ups had visited each other’s country. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was likely to visit Iran in May or June in a bid to bring peace and stability in the region.
He said it was necessary for the unity and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah that these two countries should have friendly ties with each other. He said the prevailing sectarian divide among ranks of Muslim Ummah was detrimental for the whole Islamic world. Aziz said unity of Muslim Ummah was his government’s main objective.
When inquired if Pakistan was sending its weapons to Syria, Aziz said at present there was no specific accord about that country. Aziz said Pakistan intended to sell Saudi Arabia its small weapons and fighter jets. He said there were a very few countries willing to help Pakistan and the people should not see these relations with suspicions.
