Mother seeks death penalty for daughters’ killer

RAWALPINDI – The ill-fated mother whose two daughters were brutally murdered while another got injured over marriage issue during a brazen attack on a private girls hostel in Lalkurti area on June 20, 2011 wants the killer to be hanged.“What I want is the arrest and death penalty for Asad Ali. He is an animal. He killed my two innocent daughters Saira Naz and Saima Naz and paralyzed the third Sobia Naz by firing shots at her jaws and knee,” said Shahjahan Begum in a chocked voice while talking to TheNation on Wednesday. But, unfortunately, Rawalpindi police and its bosses including Regional Police Officer (RPO) Captain (Retd) Muhammad Zubair, City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokher and SSP (Operations) Yasin Farooq are not looking in a mood to fulfill the wish of the miserable mother, using dilly-dallying tactics in arrest of the killer and humiliating the poor mother by calling her in offices and giving her time frame for putting Asad behind the bar.The seriousness of police can be judged from a fact that RPO Captain (Retd) Muhammad Zubair, during a meeting on October 14, 2011, gave a seven-day deadline to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Civil Line Circle Malik Tariq Mehboob and Station House Officer (SHO) PS Civil Line Raja Musadiq to nab Asad, the killer, or simply go to homes (quit from police service).Nonetheless, the RPO did not take any action against the DSP and the SHO, who did not arrest the killer within the given time period and threw the strict orders into dustbin. Both police officers are still working in their offices, leaving an impression that their political masters, who appointed them in their offices, are more powerful than the RPO.
