Speakers suggest village-based schools to raise enrolment


TOBA TEK SINGH - The Social Welfare Department arranged here on Sunday a child forum in collaboration with the Unicef.
District Officer Social Welfare Ch Muhammad Irfan, Deputy District Officer Fazal Abbas, Child Rights Committee District Coordinator Tahir Zeeshan, Azlan Iqbal Butt, Ijaz Iqbal, Abdul Mutlib and Ms Maham Ejaz addressed the forum. The speakers said that poverty forced children to go to work instead of school. They pointed out that there was not ample number of village-based schools due to which so many children had to travel long distances to attend schools in far-flung areas. They stressed the need for the establishment of more schools complete requisite resources. They also emphasised provision of all healthcare facilities to the children. Children from 12 private and government schools attended the forum while Khizer Iqbal and Ms Neha Ijaz were elected district in-charges for boys and girls forum respectively.
SHD ORGANISED MEETING: Society for Human Development (SHD), an alliance partner of Aman Ittehad, organised a meeting in connection with Solidarity Day 2012 here on Sunday.Addressing the gathering SHD Deputy Director Ms Rafia Salomi said that thousands of citizens in villages, towns and cities were demanding state institutions to play their due role within the parameters defined by the Constitution. She added that Aman Ittehad had firm commitment to uninterrupted democracy and the supremacy of parliament and peace in the country. She condemned unabated torture and target killings, and kidnappings that continued to cause untold misery to the people across the country, particularly in Balochistan. Ayub Anjum, Shakeela Nadeem, Rasheed Jalal, Clement Camie and Ashfaq Fateh also spoke on the occasion.
CM okays widening of Toba-Khikha Road: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved widening of Toba-Khikha Road.MNA Junaid Anwaar said this here on Thursday. He said he called on the CM and requested him to order the authority concerned for completion of remaining portion of the road. The CM, accepting the request, ordered officials concerned to make feasibility of the project at the earliest.
JI meeting today: Jamaat-e-Islami PP-86 workers will meet here on Friday (today). A press release said that JI tehsel Ameer Sanaullah Mufti, JI PP 86 candidate Dr Zahid Sattar and Prof Shahid Chaudhry will address the meeting.
