Ogra notifies hike in CNG prices

ISLAMABAD - The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Tuesday increased the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) from Rs 74.25 to Rs 76.35 per kg for Region 1 and from Rs 66.14 to Rs 71.5 per kg for Region 2.
According to the notification, CNG would now be sold for Rs 76.35 per kg in Region 1, which was selling at Rs 74.25 per kg. The Region 1 consists of Potohar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
For Region 2, per kg CNG price was increased by Rs 5.36 from Rs 66.14 to Rs 71.5. The Region 2 consists of Sindh and Punjab, excluding Potohar.
The increase in price was approved by the Ogra on the pretext of gas infrastructure development cess. The other recommendations for price hike, sought by CNG filling station owners association and others for increase in other costs and expenses, were rejected by the Ogra.
The new prices would be applicable from Wednesday (today). According to the OGRA notification the gas cost per kg is 32.98 for region 1, whereas for region 2 it is Rs 30.13. Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) is 15.07 for region 1 and 13.77 for region 2, electricity cost is 7.14, operating expense 5.06, human resources cost Rs 2.59, fee and subscription is 0.16, repair and maintenance 1.50 and oil and lubrication 0.81 are the same for both the regions.
The dealer margin or CNG station profit per kg is determined to be 5.01 for both the regions.
After 17 percent General Sales Tax, the total cost sums up to 76.35 for region 1 and Rs 71.50 for region 2.
