RAWALPINDI - In pursuance of Supreme Court directives and in connection with law and order situation of Karachi, particularly in view of ongoing operation, Director General (DG) Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Major General Malik Zafar Iqbal visited Karachi and held meetings with DG Rangers (Sindh), IG Police (Sindh), DG Coast Gaurds and other high officials of LEAs.
The meetings concluded in deliberate planning of a modified strategy to actively participate by encountering prevailing drug situation of Karachi, informed ANF HQ spokesman here on Friday.
Significant aspects of re-enforced anti-drug campaign of the city encompass, targeting drug dens in coordination with other LEAs, sanitization of addiction sites, extensive mobile patrolling and increased surprise/spot checks.
Moreover, special emphasis would also be paid to monitor approach routes particularly from Quetta and Peshawar i.e. Hab, Sohrab Goth, Yousaf Goth etc, watch on transportation modes and search of likely dumping spots / cache sites. Scrutiny at airport and scanning at seaports have also been intensified, he added.
He said that an excise of re-visiting / watch on activities of already convicted persons has also been ordered. Owing to the shortage of strength, ANF Sindh has been temporarily augmented with additional manpower and leave of all ANF officials curtailed to minimum possible.
As part of the cleanup operations in light of Supreme Court instructions, on Oct 31, 2103 a number of activities have been conducted at Kala pull, Chanessar Goth, Gyzri and Gharibabad at different timings. All these areas have been cleaned and 15 people arrested. As per instructions of DG ANF, this cleanup operation would continue on weekly basis till all drug sellers / dealers are apprehended. Additionally in next 48-72 hours more operations would be conducted as part of raids in various suspected locations.
