The evidence of a Stone Age settlement which flourished prior to 4th millennium BC has been discovered by experts at Chitterpari area in outskirt of Mirpur city of Azad Jammu & Kashmir here. A team of archaeologist headed by Dr Ashraf Khan from Taxila Institute of Asian Civilization, Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad, visited Mirpur to evaluate Chittarpari rock, said Dr Mohsin Shakeel, a seasoned expert of archaeology and tourism and former Director General of AJK Tourism Department.
The visiting team of experts included Dr Ghaniur Rehman, PhD scholar Rukhsan Saed Muhammad, students of Archaeology Department, Dr Hamid Khawaja and Dr Mohsin Shakil. "The team discovered many other rocks bearing interesting inscriptions and gathered evidence of a Stone Age settlement which flourished prior to 4th millennium BC", Dr Shakeel told this scribe on Tuesday.
Dr Shakeel quoted a seasoned expert and head of the visiting team Dr Ashraf Khan as saying "it is an important discovery and needs further exploration and study". "Dr Khan also emphasized the need for protection of the site which is under threat of encroachment", said Dr Shakeel who coordinated the trip to unearth the centuries-old heritage from this part of Jammu & Kashmir State.
