Supreme Court on Wednesday declared the agreement between the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) null and void.
In a suo motu case relating to the ETPB land of billions of rupees selling for peanuts, the three-member bench of apex court head by justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry declaring the agreement void also ordered for initiating criminal proceedings against ETPB Chairman, Asif Hashmi and others, the court also directed to appoint new chairman of the organisation.
During case proceedings, the apex court directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to complete investigation into the case and submit the report in Registrar Office.
The Chief Justice had observed that the ETPB made the illegal agreement by closing their eyes and added that in accordance with the constitution and law the Trust land can neither be sold nor can be exchanged with other land.
It may be recalled that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken the suo motu notice of the sale of ETPB land worth billions of rupees for peanuts.
