LAHORE - The Supreme Court was moved Wednesday to curtail powers of Council of Islamic Ideology (CII). Watan Party chairman filed a petition in the SC Lahore Registry stating that Council of Islamic Ideology introduced such recommendations which were against the local laws. The Council, he alleged, did not consider Islamic historical perspective while introducing such recommendations to the Parliament which was tantamount to exceeding its own limits.
The petitioner said that the Council of Islamic Ideology had declared over 700 international laws as illegal and Un-Islamic. He pleaded the court to curtail the powers of the Council so that there would be no contradiction in laws.
