HAFIZABAD - A five-year-old girl was criminally assaulted by a fiendish young man in Dera Rajputan (Chatha Dad) here on Saturday.
According to police source, the girl (identity withheld), daughter of Muhammad Akmal was playing in the street when the accused Muhammad Saeed took her to his dera where he allegedly raped her.
When her condition deteriorated the accused abandoned her in the street and managed to escape from the scene. The police said that the accused is a habitual criminal.
However, the police raided his residence but he and his family members attacked the police with batons.
The police have registered a case against the accused and arrested him accordingly.  The victim was shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, a youth and a girl attempted suicide at two different places while a married woman was seriously tortured by her husband.
According to police source, Ijaz father of Riaz often quarrelled with his mother which perturbed him as a result of which he decided to put an end to his life by taking poisonous tablets. He was shifted to DHQ hospital in critical condition.   In another incident, 17-year-old Iqra Bibi attempted to commit suicide in Thatha Gahra after a quarrel with her parents over a minor issue.  She was also shifted to the hospital. Yet another incident, a married woman namely Sonia of Garhi Awan was mercilessly beaten by her husband Munir Ahmad with iron rod over a trifle. The police have registered a case.
