LAHORE – The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), in collaboration with the Urban Unit, P&D Department, Government of Punjab, the Water and Sanitation Program and the World Bank had concluded Pakistan’s first Water and Sanitation Hackathon tackling some of the most challenging issues faced by citizens.
Director General PITB Sajid Lateef and Director of World Bank’s Water & Sanitation Programme Dr Masrror Ahmad gave away certificates among the winning teams, NUCES-FAST got first whereas COMSAT got second position in Hackathon.
Speaking on this occasion World Bank’s Communication Consultant Anjum Rahman said that first time “Two Way Communication System” between people and government organisation had been introduce which would not only help to monitor the performance of these organisations but also help to solve the problems regarding water supply and sanitation.
Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT), COMSATS (Lahore and Islamabad) National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES), Beaconhouse National University (BNU) as well a team from Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITMES) competed alongside an app-development software houses in a two-day coding fest.
The Hackathon was a global event, being held simultaneously in 14 cities including Cape Town, Dhaka, Pune, New York, London, San Francisco and Helsinki.
