Anti-polio workers move for stipends

PESHAWAR - Expressing concern over the non-payment of their daily stipends for last three months, scores of polio transit teams' workers on Monday held a protest demonstration against the government in front of press club.
The demonstrators led by Samiud Din, a polio team supervisor, were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans to press for their demands. The protesting workers chanted slogans against the government and authorities concerned.
Talking to media persons on the occasion, Sami informed that for the last three months polio workers have been deprived of their daily stipend, adding the workers were being paid meagre wage of Rs250 per day against the promised minimum wage of Rs1,000 per day. "When we contact the District Health Office (DHO) in this connection, he replied that the concerned high-ups will yet to sign the bill," he added. He said that when the World Health Organization (WHO) officials were approached to know about the reason that why their wages were not released, they informed that they did not even receive a report of their work from the DHO concerned.
