KESC gives solar lamps to students

KARACHI - Karachi Electric Supply Company under its Social Investment Programme distributed solar-charged study lamps among the high performing students of The Citizens Foundation School.
The study lamps for students with dual charging by solar power and electricity were handed over to around 90 top students of TCF School Qayyumabad in a ceremony where CEO of KESC Tabish Gauhar was present along with TCF Chairman Mushtaq Chhapra.
In his speech, Gauhar said that this was the first step of the project initiated by the KESC, under which the power utility would be providing solar lamps to all secondary high academic achievers in eight campuses of the TCF. Under its Social Investment Plan, KESC has already been providing free of cost electricity to all these purpose-built schools run by TCF with an approximate enrollment of 52,000 students in Karachi mostly coming from low income families. Mushtaq Chhpara Chairman of TCF thanked KESC and termed the gift of lamp as “a friend to our students from KESC.”
With the solar-charged lamps, which have a battery life of 6 hours, students would have an alternate source of emission free light for studying.
KESC’s objective through this project is to provide extended study hours to students giving them an opportunity to enhance their academic performance.
