KARACHI – Federal Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Farooq H Naek on Saturday said that every conspiracy to shelve polls would be defeated.“The general elections will be held in due course,” he said while talking to reporter after visiting Karachi Bar Association. Naek warned against any misadventure aimed at putting the polls on the backburner. “If any institution, individual, or group tries to cross the line this time it would put the hard-earned democracy in serious jeopardy,”, he maintained..Earlier, speaking at a ceremony hosted by the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), Farooq Naek reiterated that general elections would be held on time.The minister said that there were rumours about the postponement of elections. He said the government would ensure on-time holding of the elections, adding that nobody needed to be worried in this regard.“We are supporters of independent judiciary. The establishment of an independent Election Commission is also a historic achievement of the democratic government,” he said.He said state institutions need to work within their domain. He also appreciated the sacrifices of Karachi Bar for the cause of democracy. Later, the Law Minister presented a cheque of Rs15 million to Karachi Bar Association.
