ISLAMABAD - Adopting a timely move to put the main opposition party — PML(N) — into trouble, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), with support of its coalition partners, is all set to bring the resolution in favor creation of Seraiki province in the National Assembly today (Thursday).
PPP has planned to bring the resolution in favor creation of Seraiki province in the National Assembly, apparently in a move to create a troubling situation for the largest opposition party, MQM sources told TheNation.
Awami National Party (ANP), which had earlier clearly opposed the resolution for Hazara province, has assurance conditional support if the PPP government just bring a resolution in favor of creation of Seraiki province san touching the move of Hazara province, said sources.
PPP, sources said, has made a strategy to bring resolution at this juncture when PML-N has cautioned to launch anti-government long march and continuously creating furor in the national assembly.
Sources said the idea of bringing this resolution is ostensibly to put PML-N with no option but to support or reject the creation of province. Both of the situations with regard to vote bank to further divide the province or go against creation could put the opposition party in bothersome situation, political analysts assumed.
It is relevant to mention here that MQM’s bill for the formation of new provinces has been deferred in the 38th national assembly session due to objection and intervention of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Awami National Party (ANP).
PML(N) had even came up with demand of a high-powered commission on creation of new province, while ANP had criticised MQM for raising this issue when it had no seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
The issue of provinces was to be discussed in the 39th session as Prime Minister (PM) Yusuf Raza Gilani on the floor of the house had assured in the last session (38th session) to discuss matter of new provinces in the next session.
The PML-N, in the National Assembly, opposed debate on creation of new province, including Seraiki and Hazara, categorically making it clear that the point of order on these resolutions could not be discussed.
It was also learnt MQM delegation had also met Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani requesting to bring resolution in favor of creation of Seraiki province.
