QUETTA: Unidentified miscreants on Monday blew up a main gas pipeline in Naseerabad district, which supplies gas to Uch Power Plant, decreasing electricity production from the plant. According to police, unidentified miscreants had planted explosives near a 24-inch diameter gas pipeline in Peropal Beroon area of Dera Murad Jamali.
The explosives exploded with a big bang, destroying a large portion of the pipeline and suspending gas supply to Uch Power Plant.
The blast was so powerful that its sound was heard from a long distance. However, no loss of life was reported.
Sources said that due to suspension of gas supply to Uch Power Plant, shortage of 586MW occurred in the system, causing a power crisis in different parts of Sindh, Balochistan andPunjab. Following the incident, law-enforcement agencies rushed to the site and started search in the area to arrest the accused involved in the incident. According to the sources, engineers reached the site and started repair of the pipeline. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
