KARACHI Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan has said that his Ministry was consulting the legislative authorities to bring all the influential in the tax net. He said that accountability is for every one. Addressing the 'Meet the Press Programme of Karachi Press Club (KPC) here Sunday, the Minister said that the Government was very much perturbed over the issue that the influential were not filing tax returns. Federal Minister of Law Babar Awan announced a grant of Rs 200,000 for Karachi Press Club on the occasion. While addressing to Meet The Press, Babar Awan said that those who dont want democracy are trying to damage the Federation. He said that accountability is for everyone. Awan said he paid so much tax which no one had given yet. The existing laws need overhauling and justice should prevail without any discrimination, he said. Referring to the dictatorial rules of the past, the Minister said that all the conspiracies against the democratic government will be foiled. He said that the accountability should be conducted across the board and it is not confined to the politicians, and 'chosen accountability was not the barometer of justice. He said that the present Govt has always defended the Freedom of Information Act and added that the PPP made a lot of sacrifices for the protection of the Constitution. The Minister said that the slogans of 'Sindh Card were the days of history as today the present Government enjoys the support of the masses in all the provinces and added that the Government will complete its tenure and next elections will be held in 2013. Babar Awan said that it was for the first time in the history of the country that the present Government gave representation to all the provinces. The Federal Govt has given all due shares to the provinces under the NFC Award and all the federal secretaries hail from all the provinces, he said. Extending all the support to Dr Aafia and her family, he said that the case could have been filed in the Pakistani court and her trial in the US court was totally unfair and unjust. Dr Aafia case is based on circumstantial evidence and it is totally an unfounded case, he said and the urged the Attorney General of the US to hand over Dr Aafia Siddiqui to Pakistani govt. He said that the Govt was doing its best in the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui and his Ministry was also in constant communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard.
