ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Bank of Punjab in the bail application of Sheikh Afzal, the main accused in Rs8 billion BoP scandal. A three-member bench headed by Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani heard the bail application of Sheikh Afzal. During the hearing Afzals counsel, Ahmed Awais, told the court that his client had paid back Rs3.67 billion cash and also given 600-tola gold including diamonds to the bank. He said despite deposing of huge amount, Sheikh Azal was still in jail. After hearing his arguments, the court issued notices to the respondents. In the last hearing BoPs counsel submitted a written statement regarding non-cooperative behaviour of Afzal to settle the liabilities and pay the balance outstanding against him and his family. He had stated that Sheikh Afzal and his family were trying to scuttle and frustrate the entire process of the sale of properties by trying to tag the issue of sale with their ascertainment of the actual amount due from the accused to the bank.
