A rickshaw driver of Kalianwala (Piray Da Kot) was brutally tortured to death by influential landlords of the village today.
According to police source, rickshaw driver Muhammad Farooq was on way to Hafizabad for dropping girls to their college. On the way accused Bashir, Yameen and others came on a car from behind and wanted to overtake the rickshaw but due to narrow and dilapidated road the deceased could not give them way to overtake. Somehow the accused stopped the rickshaw, grabbed the deceased and brutally tortured him with clubs, resultantly he died on-the-spot.
When the news of the barbarity of the accused and on-the-spot death of young rickshaw driver reached the village the villagers removed the dead body to the DHQ Hospital and later took the dead body to Vanike Chowk where they staged a protest against barbarity shown by the influential accused. His father lost mental balance when he heard the news of death of his young son. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and have arrested Bashir and Yameen while the other managed their good escape.
paddy crop: Superior standing paddy crops over hundreds of acres of land in the district has been badly damaged due to virus (Patta Lapait & BLB) President Kissan Board Hafizabad. Addressing a press conference, Kissan Board District President Aman Ullah Chattha said that paddy crops had been already damaged or destroyed by floods and heavy rains but now attack by the pests had further aggravated the situation. He lamented that no notice had so far been taken by the agriculture and plant protection departments.
He feared that if prompt aerial spray was not conducted this foreign exchange-earning crop would be ruined, causing irreparable loss to the national exchequer. He called upon Punjab Chief Ministry to order agricultural experts to visit the effected area and arranged for immediate spray.
