Missing persons’ case: CJ expresses resentment over absence of Balochistan AG

The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, has expressed his strong resentment over the absence of Attorney General (AG) during the hearing of case regarding law and order situation in Balochistan. During the hearing of case in Quetta Registry, as filed by the Balochistan High Court, the 3-member Bench headed by CJP and including Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Tariq Pervez were chagrined at the absence of AG. The CJP, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry expressed that “probably AG likes the Memo Commission more than Supreme Court”. “Is the Memo Commission more important than the Supreme Court?” enquired a visibly displeased CJP. Justice Khilji remarked that “Maybe, because the Balochistan case was issue of the poor masses, while the Memo case pertained to ‘elite segment’. On the occasion, the secretary interior presented his report regarding the issue of mutilated dead bodies, over which the CJP expressed his total discontent, while Justice Khilji also admonished the secretary, asking the secretary whether he was more considerate about his job, than the Federation and his reputation; as none of the issue pertaining to 349 mutilated dead bodies had been resolved. Expressing his strong chagrin over police failure to resolve any case regarding the missing persons, the CJP castigated the IG for his failure to resolve the issue, issuing him strict directives to produce persons missing from Saryab Road in Quetta. He also warned that any failure to do so would entail suspension of all police officials, including the IG.
