ROBBERS DEPRIVE JEWELLER OF 2-KG GOLD
Two unidentified robbers snatched away 2-kg gold ornaments from a jeweller at gunpoint within the limits of Police Station Ratta Amral here on Tuesday.
Police filed a case and started investigation but could not arrest the robbers or recover the looted gold so far.
According to details, Jan Muhammad, a goldsmith, was heading towards his shop after buying gold from Sarafa Bazaar when two intruders riding on a motorcycle intercepted him at Railways Workshop Road and pointed guns at his head. Later, the robbers looted gold and sped away.
A police officer, when contacted, said that two robbers deprived a goldsmith of 2-kg gold ornaments and ran away. A case was filed while investigation was underway, he added.
It is worth mentioning here that the city seemingly has been under the control of robbers, dacoits and burglars who had already looted two jewellery shops located at Tench Bhatta and Sadiqabad on Sunday last but police could not even trace out the looters. This created unrest among the jewellers who demanded of SSP (Operations) Mian Maqbool to take notice of increasing crime rate in the city.
On the other hand, the workers overwhelmed three out of four burglars who stormed into a flourmill located in the area of PS Westridge. According to police, four robbers equipped with sophisticated weapons entered Kohsar Al-Hilal Flour Mills and made the entire staff hostage at gunpoint. The robbers were busy in looting spree when some workers came into action and caught three robbers. However, the fourth robber managed to flee, police added. The robbers were put behind lockup while further investigation was on, police said.
TRADERS STAGE PROTEST
A large number of traders and citizens staged a massive protest demonstration against the closure of Naz Cinema U-turn on Benazir Bhutto Road on Tuesday.
The protestors, led by Anjuman-e-Tajran Furniture Khanna Road, Kohati Bazaar and Circular Road presidents Wasim Mir and Qari Khalid Mehmood, also torched old tyres and blocked BBR, triggering a gigantic traffic jam on city’s main artery.
Holding placards, the protestors chanted slogans against the district government.
The mess of protestors at Naz Cinema on BBR also caused a halt to traffic movement on Double Road, Faizabad, Dhoke Kala Khan Road, 6th Road, 7th Road, Chandni Chowk, Iran Road, Committee Chowk, Iqbal Road, Raja Bazaar, Mareer Chowk, Saddar, Kashmir Road and Mareer Hassan.
Addressing the protestors, the speakers condemned the government move of closure of U-turn and said that the closure has added to miseries of the citizens and commuters.  They said that owing to deteriorating law and order situation their businesses were already running in loss and after the closure of this U-turn, their customers would face difficulties in reaching their shops. This move would adversely affect our business as the customers would have to cover a long distance to reach us, they added.  “This decision is unjust, as we would have to make a long round to reach our destinations” said a citizen Chaudhry Zulfiqar, who hails from Naz Cinema. This step would be of no use as it would not help reduce traffic mess but would add to the problems of common man, said a shopkeeper.
“We will have to spend a lot of time in reaching our educational institutions due to closure of this U-turn,” said a group of students. A large numbers of residents of Chah Sultan, while talking to this scribe, also demanded withdrawal of orders for closure of this U-turn.
