NGOs flay Malala ‘haters’

PESHAWAR: Expressing grave concern over the stoppage of launching ceremony of Malala's book by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, a group of tribal civil society organisations asked the government to respect the basic rights of citizens and avoid misuse of powers. Addressing a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, Zar Ali, Chairman of the Tribal NGOs Consortium, said that the stoppage of the launch of a book 'I am Malala' in Area Study Centre, University of Peshawar, was actually violation of Article 19 of the constitution, under which every citizen avails the freedom of expression.
Though the incumbent PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government recently promulgated Right to Information law 2013, despite that it intentionally stopped the launching ceremony of the book written on female education in Pakistan, he said. He also said that University of Peshawar and the Area Study Centre are research centres and operate as autonomous bodies, but the government influenced the authorities concerned, which is violation of the rule and constitution of the country.
