Police smashed 159 gangs, arrested 570 ‘notorious criminals’ in 2012

KOT RADHA KISHAN - The district police have smashed 150 inter-district gangs of dacoits, thieves, car and cattle-lifters and arrested 570 notorious criminals involved in heinous nature of offences during the outgoing year. The police also recovered stolen property worth more than Rs140 million and handed it over to the owners.
This was disclosed by DPO Syed Khurram Ali Shah while addressing media here the other day.
He said that the police registered 11,358 cases as 405 cases, less than the previous year of 2011, showing a decrease in the crimes in the district.
The DPO said that during special campaign, the Kasur police have smashed 150 notorious criminal gangs and arrested 570 notorious criminals and recovered illegal weapons worth Rs65 million.
He said that 18 criminals were shot dead during 16 police shootout included Asif alias Tinda (1 million head money), Riaz Dogar (Rs1million head money), Tariq Kumhar (Rs0.5 million head money), Ishaque alias Ishaqi (Rs0.5 million head money) and Saeed Mayo while three proclaimed offenders were also arrested in injured condition.
The DPO also said that 1,730 POs were arrested who had been involved in murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery and other offences.
During special campaign launched against illegal weapons, the police recovered 15 Kalashnikovs, 75 rifles, 297 guns, 1796 pistol/revolvers and other weapons.
During anti-narcotics campaign, the police registered 1,545 cases and recovered 32-kg of heroin, 490-kg of Charas, 3-kg of opium and 36,203 bottle of wine and 1,611 drug pushers were sent to local courts.  The DPO said that the district police traced out 192 murder cases out of 237, 148 cases of dacoity out of 207, 4 cases of abduction for ransom, of the registered 22 solve 20 gang rape cases and 246 car-snatching were traced out in the corresponding period. .
