Powerlooms workers protest against price hike, low wages

JHANG - The businessmen are exploiting poor labours while the Labour Department, Social Security and District Administration have failed to resolve the problem of labour community.
The MQM divisional and district leaders said this while addressing a protest rally here the other day.
The power looms workers took out a rally against price-hikes in essential commodities and aggravating unemployment among workers and youth owing to loadshedding and prevalent anti-labour legislation, such as, the 'Industrial Relations Ordinance' here the other day. The rally was attended by thousands of people including women and children.
The rally started from Adhiwal Chowk and after marching through bazaars culminated at Ayub Chowk . The labourers' raised slogans against the administration. On the other hand, the owners have closed their looms fallowing the workers demand for raising wages in the district.  On the occasion, the speakers demanded for issuance of social security cards to the labours and implementation of Health and Safety Act in power looms.
They also announced that workers from across Faislaabad Division would be gathered in the third weak of January at Faisalabad Dhobi Ghat ground to fight for their basic rights.
