Female rights activist shot dead


KHYBER AGENCY - AHMAD NABI - A local female worker of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) was shot dead by unidentified attackers on Wednesday in the Ghundai area of Jamrud, official and local sources informed.
Farida Kokikhel, working as office assistant in SAWERA, was on her way to office when armed assailants riding a motorcycle intercepted her and opened indiscriminate fire. She received multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The killers successfully managed to escape after committing the crime. Soon after the incident, officials and locals moved to the scene and shifted the body to hospital for medico-legal formalities. A case was registered against unidentified killers and the local administration launched a search operation in the area.  The deceased was a human rights activist and was working for the welfare of womenfolk in the area.  She had been receiving threats from militants for her activities, locals said.
It is pertinent to mention that few months back, an active human rights worker Zarteef Afridi was also killed by militants in Jamrud.
