Circumstantial outburst or something else

MPs from both treasury and opposition benches have turned their guns towards Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, demanding his resignation for his failure to protect the life of his fellow cabinet colleague. The matter was otherwise a routine as the MPs used to shake the conscience of ruling elite on part of their mal-administration and failure to deliver with no avail, but the demand of resignation from Rehman Malik by ruling party MP Jamshaid Dasti, considered to be the blue-eyed of President Asif Ali Zardari, has turned it into a serious affair and the eyebrows of many sitting in the House were raised. Some of them were of the view that if he had done all this on the behest of his 'master' then Rehman Malik would definitely be landing in hot waters, who is also known to a close buddy of party Co-Chairman. Winding up debate on the security situation in the capital following the high profile assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik had tactfully shifted the responsibility of security lapse, partly on slain minister and partly on other concerned quarters. Just to satisfy his conscience and the MPs sitting in the house he offered conditional resignation, saying that if the terrorism would end with his resignation he was ready to resign right now. He gave a detailed resume of terrorists' strikes in various parts of Punjab where no one had stepped down just to give a weak justification for not bowing out taking the responsibility in the security lapse, which resulted in the assassination of his cabinet colleague. He shifted the responsibility of non-provision of bulletproof vehicle to the minister on Cabinet Division and also attempted to satisfy the MPs on the security provided to him, which unfortunately was not with him at the time of ambush and that too on his direction. Well over a dozen MPs came down hard on the government for the security lapse and asked for his, but the demand by some of the ruling party MPs particularly from Jamshaid Dasti, a blue-eyed of President Zardari, raised many eyebrows. There were whispers in the corridors of the Parliament that Jamshaid Dasti was just a mouthpiece and the words he uttered were scripted somewhere else. If this is the case then Rehman Malik would land in real trouble and may lose his cabinet slot. But many others considered the utterance by Jamshaid Dasti a circumstantial outburst, which has little or no significance at all. In that case Dasti would be made listen the music as Rehman Malik was also among the close buddies of President Zardari. In the recent past a former federal minister had landed in trouble after a brawl with Rehman Malik in one of the meetings of defunct federal cabinet. A couple of hours after the assassination of Shahbaz Bhatti, in the federal cabinet meeting soon after condoling the death of his cabinet colleague Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani offered to resign on the tragic incident, but rest of his cabinet colleagues had barred him from taking the decision. Some members of the cabinet sharing this information with The Nation said that actually the Premier was making Interior Minister realise about lapse in security in the federal capital, which is obviously his responsibility, and showing him the honourable part to follow.
