So after 15 days of exciting cricket its left to defending champions Australia and their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand to battle it out in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy at Centurion Park. While Australia comprehensively beat England in the semi-final to reach the final; the New Zealanders got the better of Pakistan in a highly charged game at Wanderers to make it to the final. Both teams have won this tournament once before as New Zealand did it in 2000 while Aussies did it last time round in 2006. Australians have been unbeaten in this years tournament and are the team to beat. They had a close win against Pakistan but that was the nearest they came to a defeat in the tournament. Otherwise all is clicking the way it should for Ricky Ponting and his men. Ponting is in awesome form with the bat and is leading from the front being the highest run getter of the tournament. Shane Watson has also hit his straps with a fabulous hundred in the last game. And Michael Hussey has held the middle order well with his resolute batting. As far as bowling goes they have Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson both of whom looked a bit off colour against England but they are world class players and New Zealand will be wary of them. Black Caps on the other hand will be upbeat after defeating a top side like Pakistan in the semi-final. However they still have their work cut out for the final. Kiwis applied themselves well at Wanderers and it is something they will like to repeat at Centurion again. Grant Elliot is doing wonderfully well as an all rounder while the others will also have to chip in with the bat against a quality bowling unit like Australia. Ross Taylor is still their main man and will have to deliver today as he hasnt been able to play an innings according to his potential thus far in the tournament. New Zealand bowled according to a plan against Pakistan which would be encouraging for them and they will have to repeat it today as well. If they can pluck out Ponting and Hussey early they are in with a real chance. The likes of Shane Bond, Ian Butler and Kyle Mills will have to be at them throughout while Daniel Vettori is a class spinner who has always troubled the Aussies. All this makes out for an exciting final today. Australians have this ability to raise their game even further in a tournament final so they will be firm favourites but New Zealand also have potential in them and are peaking at the right time so it can be a close game. Players to look out for Ricky Ponting looks in ominous form and is getting back to his destructive best. This isnt good news for New Zealand as 'Punter has this ability to take away the game from the opposition with a thunderous knock. And if today is Pontings day its bye bye New Zealand. Grant Elliot is a new player for the Kiwis but he has been impressive with his performances so far. He bats well and also bowls decently making him a valuable player. He has his ODI batting best of 115 against Australia so the Aussies will indeed be targeting him making him one to look out for. Head to head & Conditions Australians have a clear upper hand in the ODI games against New Zealand. They have won 80 out of the 117 games played between the two with New Zealand winning only 32. In recent games overall Australia have won thrice of their last five ODI games while New Zealand have also won thrice in their last five ODI games. The conditions at Centurion can be tricky at times but in the day night game can be more favourable for the side batting second as the dew factor comes into play under lights which makes bowling difficult. Expected line-ups Australia: Watson, Paine, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey, Ferguson, Hopes, Johnson, Lee, Hauritz, Siddle. New Zealand: McCullum, Redmond, Guptill, Taylor, Elliot, Vettori, Broom, Franklin, Mills, Bond, Butler.
