RAWALPINDI - PML-N leaders and supporters came to the streets on Tuesday to agitate against prolonged power outages in the city, which made the life of common man miserable. PML-N lawmakers were also joined by traders and people belonging to various walks of life in the protest against loadshedding. The enraged protestors expressed their anger by burning tyres and copies of electricity bills, chanting slogans against PPP-led government, Wapda and blocking Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR) for traffic by staging a sit-in at Naz Cinema Chowk, which caused immense troubles for commuters. According to details, PML-N MPAs Raja Hanif Advocate, Malik Ghulam Raza and former MNA Haji Pervez along with scores of workers gathered at Banni Chowk where they staged a protest demonstration against the power outage. The protestors were holding placards and banners mentioning slogans against PPP-led govt and Wapda. They demanded immediate end to loadshedding. Meanwhile, a large numbers of traders under the leadership of Malik Shahid Ghafoor Paracha and members of civil society also joined the protest demonstration. After, they took out a protest rally from Banni Chowk to Naz Cinema Chowk, where they staged a sit-in. PML-N city secretary general Haji Pervez led the protest rally. While addressing the protestors, PML-N MPAs leashed out at PPP-led govt saying despite passage of four years it had failed in ending the ongoing energy crises in the country. They said that Wapda was suspending power supply for 12 to 14 hours in various parts of the city multiplying the miseries of people. They said that excessive loadshedding made the lives of common people miserable. They said that the industrial sector had been destroyed while thousands of poor workers had been rendered jobless. They said that the federal govt had totally failed in mitigating the problems being faced by poor people of country. In all the major cities, enraged masses took to streets against persistent loadshedding and damaging public and government property but PPP led government had closed eyes towards the situation. They vowed to continue protest against electricity suspension. Malik Shahid Ghafoor Paracha, while addressing, said that the business community was facing huge loss because of loadshedding. PML-N and civil society members protest triggered a massive gridlock on BBR and its adjoining roads including Naz Cinema Road, Committee Chowk, Iqbal Road, Raja Bazaar, Banni, Asghar Mall Road, Chandni Chowk, Sadiqabad Road, Commercial Market, 6th Road and Rehmanabad. , putting hundreds of thousands of commuters and pedestrians in trouble. On the other hand, dozens of residents of Ammar Pura, Chah Sultan, Kohati Bazaar and Waris Khan staged a protest demonstration at 5 p.m. against loadshedding at Naz Cinema Chowk. The protestors torched tyres and blocked BBR for traffic. They also chanted slogans against PPP-led government and Wapda officials. Younis Khan, a private employee, said that constant loadshedding had multiplied their miseries. He said that electricity outages were being observed by Wapda for 10 to 12 hours daily in the city. He said that his children could not sleep during the night.
