MULTAN – During the Punjab governor’s meeting on Wednesday, the PPP workers burst out against the party leadership and said that nothing was done by the leaders for the welfare of workers despite being in the government.
Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa said that the powers of governors were curtailed after the amendments and he had no authority to give jobs. The governor, however, warned that the 40m residents of South Punjab might launch mutiny against throne of Lahore (Punjab govt) if their genuine demand for a separate province was not accepted.
Addressing the office bearers and workers of the PPP at Circuit House, he added that the denial of due rights to the residents of the region could produce highly adverse and bloody results. He claimed that the PPP was sincere in creating Seraiki province and if the PML-N did created any hurdle in its way, the PPP would go for elections with the slogan of Seraiki province.
He said that although the leaders of PPP were martyred, their philosophy and thoughts were still alive. He said that the Bhttoism gave confidence to the workers and that’s why they had the courage to express their sentiments before party leadership.
“Otherwise, the workers of other parties can’t say anything before even MNAs and MPAs,” he added.
He lamented that the electoral code of conduct was badly violated during by-polls in Punjab but no one took its notice. He said that the Election Commission completely failed to control hooliganism during by polls because entire administrative machinery was under control of Punjab government.
He said that the PPP restored 1973 Constitution in its real form by omitting all amendments made by the dictators through 18th and 19th amendments. He said that the PPP workers were real asset of the party and their problems and reservations would be resolved on priority basis.
Earlier, the governor chaired the 8th meeting of Bahauddin Zakariya University’s senate. Speaking on the occasion, he said that no country or nation could make progress without education and therefore entire society would have to launch concerted efforts to promote literacy. He stressed the teachers to play their role in character-building of students and making them good citizens.
He said that it was unfortunate that three different types of education systems were valid in the country as a result of which teachers, students and parents were confused. He said that the country possessed incredible treasure of talent. What we need is to introduce reforms in our education system,” he added. He stressed upon the teachers to offer market based education to the students as government could not provide jobs to all graduates.
He regretted that the extremists distorted the image of Pakistan, asking the students to show distinction in their fields and improve the image of their country. He said that the BZU was the largest university of the region and many new disciplines were being introduced in this institution. To a query, he said that he had no strife with any one and we all needed to work together for the promotion of education in the country.
He categorically declared that no compromise would be made on autonomy of universities. He said that there should not be any political intervention in varsities.
