CNG availability irks domestic consumers

RAHIM YAR KHAN - Gas supply to domestic consumers remained suspended for the whole day in Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad tehsils as the CNG filling station owners had got gas supply restored to their stations at gunpoint.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited In-Charge Zia Haider Kazmi told TheNation that the owners had got the supply restored to their stations at gunpoint. He mentioned the orders of the Islamabad High Court regarding gas supply to residential, commercial, industrial consumers and the CNG sector.
Kazmi added that he had no power to suspend gas supply to CNG stations so he closed the main supply near Jamaldin Wali to domestic consumers in the two cities. Earlier, a number people blocked the Bypass Road as a protest and van drivers protested at Khanpur Addah against the gas suspension.
They chanted slogans against the SNGPL administration and alleged that it was involved in the restoration of gas supply to CNG stations. DCO Nabeel Javid said that 10 CNG stations had got stay orders for restoration of gas supply to their stations. He further said that he had formed a committee led by Additional District Collector Syed Wajid Ali Shah to negotiate with the CNG owners in this respect.
