SC seeks report on Lahore fake encounter

ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought judicial inquiry report regarding fake police encounter that occurred in EME Colony Lahore on the next date of hearing. Rejecting the settlement between accused and family of victim in Sialkot's fake encounter case, the court observed that proceeding should be initiated against the judge, who accepted the settlement and released the main accused. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday was hearing suo motu case regarding reportedly fake police encounters in different cities of Punjab, which has been taken on an electronic media programme. It is pertinent to mention that these two fake encounter incidents occurred in EME Colony Lahore and Sialkot (Daska). During the course of proceedings, the Additional Advocate General Punjab Khadim Hussain Qaisar informed the court that district and session judge has completed the inquiry regarding the fake police encounter, which happened in EME Colony Lahore He also told about the settlement between accused police officials and family of victims in Sialkot's encounter.
