Ex-PML-Q lawmaker secures pre-arrest bail

LAHORE – District and Sessions Judge Nazir Ahmed Gajana confirming pre-arrest bail of PML (Q) former MNA Begum Shahnaz Sheikh, accused of dual nationality, fixed March 12 for arguments on her acquittal application.
Meanwhile the judge dismissed an application filed by accused for exemption from court appearance. The bail was confirmed against furnishing bail bond of Rs1,00,000.
Meanwhile the judge fixed April 5 on a case of PPP former MPA Amna Buttar accused of dual nationality. The court had issued notices, bailable and non-bailable arrest warrants of the accused but she did not bother to appear before the court.
The judge also fixed March 19 for arguments on former PML (N) MPA Rana Asif Mehmod allegedly involved in having dual nationality. In previous proceedings the judge had framed charges on the accused.
As per the details, the election commission, in its petitions, contended that respondents were required to be citizen of Pakistan only to contest the election of the said Assembly.
It implored the court that Supreme Court of Pakistan had disqualified them for having dual citizenship and thus they made false declaration while filing their nomination papers and had committed an offence of corrupt practice in terms of sections 78 and 82 of People’s Representative Act 1976 and PPC sections, including 193 (submitting false evidence), 196 (using evidence known to be false), 197 (signing a false certificate), 198 (Using as true a certificate known to be false) and 199 (false statement made in declaration which is by law receivable as evidence.
