QUETTA – A shadow group “Lashkar-e-Mujahiden” has accused four private schools of promoting Christianity and threatened to disband their educational activities or face serious consequences.
This was disclosed by Shaheed Ghulam Sarwar Education Society director Attaullah Sarpara while addressing a news conference here at the Press Club on Tuesday. He said he had received a pamphlet on December 26, 2012 in which a group identifying itself as Lashkar-e-Mujahiden had cautioned that educational activities at two schools being run under SGSES umbrella must be stopped. Besides, he said the group also threatened two other private schools namely Progressive and Cascade, saying either close their activities or be ready to face dire consequences. He said that group has alleged these schools are promoting Christianity after being funded by foreign NGOs.
Brushing aside the accusations, the director said the educational institutions were not receiving any financial assistance from any NGO. “If it is proved that we are receiving assistance from any NGO, we’ll close our schools;” he argued.
He said if these four schools are closed, approximately 2,000 students would be deprived of education. He asked the concerned authorities to take action against the shadow groups and ensure security to the schools.
