Iftikhar terms cultural progress key to social uplift

PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister for Information and Culture, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that work on the Jibran Adeel Cultural Academy will be completed at a cost of Rs 38.298 million within two years.
He said the academy building would be double-storey, however it would have the capacity of two more stories. He directed the authorities concerned to complete work on the building before the stipulated time so that construction of the remaining two stories could also be ensured. This, he said, while addressing the foundation laying ceremony of Jibran Adeel Cultural Academy adjacent to Nishtar Hall Peshawar on Saturday. Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel while addressing on this occasion announced establishment of Electronic Library at Peshawar subject to availability of land by the provincial government. Secretary Culture, Azmat Hanif Orakzai and culture related people also attended the ceremony in a large number.
The minister was informed that the academy would be equipped with all modern facilities and besides having a hall of 200 seats it would also have the facility of training relating to culture sector.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that culture was the power and identity of any nation and nations loosing their identify could not exist. “That is why our enemies intentionally targeted our culture.” He added that promotion of culture was a must for social development.
The minister said that starting of cultural activities in the present situation was not an easy task but the followers of Bacha Khan made it possible at the cost of their lives.
He said the present government besides starting cultural activities in the entire province also opened Nishtar Hall which was locked for the last so many years. The minister on this occasion appealed to the high-ups of the judiciary and responsible of lawyer community to vacate the land of Nishtar Hall by shifting it to their own parking lot, so that cultural activities could be expanded.
