LAHORE In a petition filed by arms licence holders, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court was informed by the Deputy Attorney General on Wednesday that last date for surrendering arms licences to obtain a computerised one has been extended till October 30th. The petition has been filed through Barrister Syed Ali Zafar who argued that the process for issuance of arms licences, ownership of firearms, their sale, purchase and exchange as well as the issuance of ammunition has all been regulated and prescribed by the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, 1965 and the Arms Rule 1924 and the only method of amending these Rules is through a Gazette Notification. He stated that issuing directions through publication in the Press and ordering the holders of licences is illegal, not enough and without any authority. The Deputy Attorney General alongwith counsel for NADRA informed the court that the deadline for conversion of the arms licences into the computerised form has been extended till October 30th.
