Mangoes for Modi

LAHORE- In another attempt to improve the embittered relationship with India, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent a box of mangoes to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, according to an Indian newspaper which quoted “top sources”.
The move comes right before both leaders are scheduled to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where they may possibly hold talks on the side, said a media report. Pakistan, however, has so far not made a formal proposal for the New York meeting.
The report also claimed that the mangoes – mainly Nawaz Sharif’s favourite Sindhri and Chaunsas – were also sent to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.
“The message seems to be one of sweetness as symbolised by the mangoes but we'll have to wait a little longer to see what lies on the road ahead,” the report quoted a source privy to the development.
